Bobby George - Maintaining All Aspects of a Ranching Operation
Bobby George is a longtime Yampa, Colorado rancher who maintains cattle and horses on his high altitude property. Having grown up in the local area, Bobby George completed his high school degree in Oak Creek and was active with Future Farmers of America (FFA) throughout his studies. Taking a position as president of the local FFA chapter, he attended the association’s national convention and earned the FFA American Degree.
Mr. George has owned and managed his current ranch since 1988 and oversees ranch hands and employees who assist with operations. Each year, from the beginning of April through mid-May, he is involved in calving. This leads to irrigation from mid-May to mid-July, and cattle care that includes doctoring and moving them to fresh grass through October. With haying lasting from August to September, he oversees the shipping of cattle as October comes to a close. Throughout the winter, cattle are comfortably housed and fed on the ranch.
Mr. George’s background includes sheep shearing, and he has experience sharpening shears and providing a thorough shearing of fleece. Able to run any piece of machinery involved in ranching, Bobby George has also maintained a backhoeing business and provided services such as ditch digging and excavation.
